This ordinance establishes requirements for obtaining trade licenses in Leon, Kansas to ensure all contractors and trade professionals meet safety, legal, and professional standards.

Any individual or business performing the following trades in Leon, Kansas must obtain a trade license permit:

(a)   Plumbing – Requires a Master Plumbing License and a $50 fee.

(b)   Electrical – Requires a Master Electrical License and a $50 fee.

(c)   HVAC – Requires a $50 fee.

(d)   Environmental Installer – Requires a $50 fee and, if new or not renewed in the prior year, successful completion of an installer’s exam. Continuing education (3 hours) is required for renewals.

(e)   General Contractor / Any Other Trade – Requires a $50 fee. Roofing contractors must provide a Kansas state roofing license.

All trade license applicants must submit proof of Comprehensive General Liability Insurance as part of their application.

(a)   Applications must be submitted through the City of Leon offices at 111 S. Main, Leon, Kansas, 67074

(b)   Fees must be paid at the time of application.

(c)   Licenses are valid for one year and must be renewed annually.

(a)   Operating Without a License – Any individual or business performing work without a valid trade license shall be subject to a fine of no less than one hundred ($100) dollars and no more than five hundred ($500) dollars per violation.

(b)   False Information – Submitting false documentation or failing to provide accurate insurance proof will result in immediate license suspension.

The City Manager shall be responsible for enforcing this article. Any disputes regarding licensing shall be reviewed by the County Council.
