Article 1. Building and House Numbers
All lots and parts of lots abutting any street or avenue in the City of Carbondale, Kansas, shall be numbered and all business buildings, dwelling houses and other structures located thereon shall have numbers affixed thereto by the owners or the agents of the owners thereof, as hereinafter designated.

Each 25 foot space shall constitute a whole number. First Street shall constitute the base line for all streets and avenues in said City which run east and west. Each 25 foot space on the north side of said streets and avenues shall be numbered with even numbers and each 25 foot space on the south side shall be numbered with odd numbers; such spaces between First and Second Streets shall be numbered 100 and upward, those being Second and Third Streets 200 and upward, and so on east to the city limits. East and west streets running west of First Street shall be numbered 100 and upward with even and odd numbers assigned as above stated, and shall be known as west numbers. Main Street shall constitute the base line for all streets and avenues running north and south and such streets and avenues shall be numbered therefrom either north or south as follows: The spaces on the east side of said streets and avenues shall be numbered with even numbers and the spaces on the west side of said streets and avenues shall be numbered with odd numbers. Each 25 foot space in the first block either north or south of Main Street shall be numbered 100 and upward, 200 and upward in the second block, and so on to the limits of the City. Numbers on streets and avenues running north of Main Street shall be known as north numbers, and numbers on streets running south shall be known as south numbers.

Streets and avenues which do not intersect or extend to the base street shall be numbered as if they did so extend to and intersect said base street and shall be numbered the same hundred numbers of corresponding blocks adjacent to streets that do intersect or extend to the base street or avenue.

In case there are two or more dwellings, buildings or rooms, including street stairway entrances, located on the same 25-foot space, the second and other dwellings, buildings or entrances shall be numbered the same as the first with the number 1/2, or other fraction depending on the quantity of numbers needed, being added.

In case of doubt or dispute, or if a question arises as to the proper number to be assigned to any lot or building or structure, the City Clerk of the City of Carbondale, Kansas shall decide and fix the number of such lot, building or structure, and such decision shall be final.

The numbering placed on any building or structure shall be at least three (3) inches in height, and shall be of such color and placed on the building or other structures in such a position that it can be easily seen from the street fronting the building, structure or entrance intended to be numbered.

All persons, firms, corporations, associations and organizations owning, occupying or having control of any building or other structures fronting or facing any of the public streets and avenues of the City of Carbondale, Kansas, are hereby required to number such buildings or other structures, as provided herein.

Any person, firm, corporation, association or organization convicted of violating the provisions of this article shall be fined a sum not exceeding $25.00, and each day such violation is found to occur shall constitute a separate offense.
